Each summer, Cornerstone teens who have remained drug free participate in a therapeutic wilderness trip. Counselors consider this trip the most important component of teen recovery in a year long plan of recovery. It gives many teens — for the first time — a sense of accomplishment and pride. It also bonds the group that understands the fragile road of recovery and the absolute strength required to maintain sobriety. The trip is a rugged three-week, hiking and camping adventure, planned and chaperoned by the LCDC counselors and parent volunteers. Teens build confidence, self-reliance, fitness and faith, as they are pushed out of their “comfort zone" through physical and emotional challenges. Throughout all the activities, group members will be sharing and reflecting on their experience in meetings and in their private journals.

The teens will have the chance to hear and tell their stories of recovery and to talk seriously about the challenges they have today, the ones that come up on the trail and the ones they left at home. The ultimate objective for everyone is to strengthen and enhance their recovery and the unity of the group.

	2008 trip to Oregon This year, the group will traveling to the Deschutes National Forest and Willamette Forest in Oregon. Trip activities will include mountaineering, snow climbing, orienteering, alpine hiking, skydiving and whitewater rafting. The teens will be away for approximately 20 days. Parents and teens are encouraged to review the trip requirements and note deadlines for turning in forms.
