Dr. Anette Edens

Anette Edens, PH.D (President/Psychologist)
Anette is a psychologist with fifteen years of experience treating individuals and families afflicted with substance abuse problems, including two years of training at the Houston Veteran’s Administration. Anette has eight years tenure as researcher, lecturer, and author at the University of St. Thomas. Her research in adolescent substance abuse is summarized in the foreword to Recovering Our Children, (Cates & Cummings, 2003), a publication that is used by many alternative peer group programs to support parents’ understanding of their roles in overcoming adolescent addiction. She also teaches Continuing Ed courses for addiction professionals and lectures widely in the community.

In addition to serving as president of the organization, Anette supervises the LCDC internship training program, provides individual and family treatment for dual-diagnosis clients, and offers group, family, multifamily group, and couples therapies. She feels that the primary issues in recovery of spirituality, radical honesty, unconditional love, and strict accountability are necessary for improvement from any set of problems.

Kirk Campbell

Kirk Campbell (Program Director/L.C.D.C Counselor)
After graduating high school in 1990, Kirk attended classes at Houston Community College and the University of Houston. He has been a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (L.C.D.C.) for 7 years and has been in recovery for over 18 years.

As the Program Director for Cornerstone, Kirk oversees daily functions, conducts outpatient and parent counseling programs and coordinates the annual wilderness trip that has included as many as 55 teens.

Kirk teaches his clients to help themselves and strongly believes that a child’s chances at recovery are significantly increased when their parents are involved in the program. He also believes that another ingredient for lasting sobriety is that the child must stick with “winners” (other teens that are working a strong program). Kirk is sincere, approachable, non-judgmental and believes in total honesty with the teens and their parents.

Kirk is currently involved in Alcoholics Anonymous and other service work projects.

Brenda Clark

Brenda Clark (Program Administrative Director)Soun
Brenda was a parent in the Cornerstone group in 1998-2001.  Her experience with her then unwilling son shaped a recovery journey that makes it easy to relate to parents with similar experiences. Her recovery “journey” entails many winding roads, including dual disorder and relapse.   Brenda and her son “awakened” in 2001, and Brenda joined Cornerstone staff later that year.
Initially, Brenda joined the Cornerstone Staff as the Parent Coordinator. She has worked closely over the years with the Program Director & President to help Cornerstone achieve their growth vision and to help as many teens and families as possible.  Currently serving as the Administrative Director, she still works closely with the parent development & growth.  Some of her favorite job duties still include planning the annual parent and mom retreats, and ensuring the parent meetings continue to meet the needs of our ever growing program.

With personal experience in eating disorders, family addictions, Al-Anon, dual disorders, and a strong belief in personal recovery, Brenda has much compassion and empathy for the family struggle. She strongly believes in working a program for yourself, regardless of what your teen chooses to do in their program. Brenda encourages the parents to start working their own program as soon as possible. Her suggestions to parents are that you accept the situation you are in with your teen, feel what you feel, but get out of the drama as soon as possible, learn as much as you can about addiction, lovingly detach, get involved with the parent group, attend retreats, attend the meetings (and share), get a sponsor, and work the steps for yourself.   The universal truths that Brenda has encountered in recovery are….You must take care of yourself before you can take care of someone else…it is possible to love someone to death…Hold on, there is hope!

Mandy Kueht

Mandy Kueht (C.T.I./West University Contact)
Mandy has been involved with 12-step programs since 1997. She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Houston in December of 2006. Mandy is currently the West University Coordinator for the kids’ outreach program and is responsible for planning functions, running the kids Tuesday and Saturday meetings and steering committee, and oversees the West U satellite. She also participates in outpatient therapy and girls’ group. Mandy believes 100% in the Cornerstone program and has witnessed its success first hand over the years. She is completely dedicated to helping adolescents in their recovery.

At this time, Mandy is a counselor intern (CI) and plans to obtain an LCDC through her work at Cornerstone. She has also considered the possibility of pursuing her MA in Clinical Psychology.

Mandy takes pride in being organized and dependable. Over time it has become apparent that she has a passion for psychology, adolescents and the addiction process. Mandy loves helping others and feels Cornerstone is the best place to give back and help the families who are suffering. She believes that addiction is very powerful but can be overcome with the right tools and the right amount of help.

Mandy loves to travel and has been to almost all 50 states, Mexico, the Bahamas, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. In her spare time, she loves watching movies, reading, and spending time with friends. She also maintains a close relationship with her family who means the world to her.

Adam Bocchetto

Adam Bocchetto (Sr. Outreach Staff/The Woodlands Contact)
Adam has been involved in the 12-step recovery community since 1997. He grew up in Houston attending Bellaire High School and the University of Houston. He is currently attending the Institute for Chemical Dependency Studies and working toward obtaining his LCDC certification. Adam is currently the Outreach Coordinator for The Woodlands group, and helps run the satellite outreach at Palmer Memorial.

Adam has always had a passion for working with children and young teens. He worked as a counselor in day camps and overnight camps for 6 years. Adam enjoys traveling and has traveled extensively throughout the United States, the Middle East and Europe. Travel has helped him to gain tremendous insight into other cultures.

Adam spent the last two summers as a leader on the annual Cornerstone Wilderness trip. As a leader on these trips, his greatest satisfaction has been watching the teens leave their comfort zone and witness them as they face serious challenges and fears, only to grow through those experiences.

Chris Hess Chris Hess (Outreach Staff/West University and Sugarland)

Lily Kugler Lily Kugler (Outreach Aid for Sugarland)

Matt Chapman Matt Chapman (Outreach Aid for Southside - West University)

Jackie Hauptfleisch

Jackie Hauptfleisch (Outreach Staff/West University and Sugarland)Jackie and her family joined the Cornerstone Family in early 2004 with their eldest son, who was 14 at the time.  Early recovery for her family was not easy.  There were many ‘bumps’ encountered and quite a few ‘steep’ mountains to climb.  Jackie admits that there were times she was extremely close to throwing in the towel and giving recovery up.  Today, she thanks the parents, the teens, her sponsor and Cornerstone staff for not allowing her to give it all up, saying “I came into Cornerstone for my son, I did not believe that I needed to work a program”.  She realized how wrong she was once she participated in Step Studies, “It was only when I got to the 4th step, that the truth hit me in the face – I too had unhealthy addictions and many character defects”.  It was then that Jackie fully embraced the program, working the steps, getting a sponsor and attending Climbers and other parent meetings as often as possible.  Today, Jackie will admit to any parent that she wishes she had embraced the Cornerstone program a lot sooner than she did.
Jackie’s home group was in Kingwood where she was the Parent Coordinator for just over a year.

Jackie and her husband Awakened from Cornerstone in March of 2007, being part of the first group of parents to Awaken from the Kingwood Group.  In July of 2007, Jackie joined Cornerstone staff  as Parent Coordinator for the West U group, working closely with Mandy and Brenda.  She coordinates the West U Thursday night meeting and Saturday All City meeting, working with parent volunteers who form part of a Steering Committee.  She assists with much of the administrative duties involved with West U.  She values spending time with the teens and getting to know them individually and strives to continue to build meaningful relationships with the parents and their teens.
Jackie was born in London, has spent time in France and South Africa, where she met her husband.  They have been in the USA since 1998.  In her spare time, Jackie likes reading, working out and enjoys cooking and entertaining for large groups of people.  Because of Cornerstone, I have learnt the importance of having time for ME, to take care of myself and I do that by having quiet time, time to reflect, and have my daily meditation time.

Jackie will encourage any family that is experiencing teen drug and alcohol addictions to take that first step – to admit they have a problem and that they cannot handle it by themselves.  You will learn that no one can do it alone and that it is okay to take that risk in asking for help.  By embracing this recovery program, it can save your child and your family.

Phyllis Mahoney

Phyllis Mahoney
Phyllis Mahoney was a parent in the Cornerstone group in 1999-2002.  She and her daughter were both in the program and "awakened" — a special event representing growth and recovery in the Cornerstone program.  Phyllis has been intricately involved in Cornerstone every since.  She has served as a volunteer in many capacities, including past fundraising and auction committees.

Phyllis has worked part-time for Cornerstone doing the OP billing and insurance verification.  In May 2008, she will begin working full-time as our Office Manager, and will continue to process all Insurance billing and claims, as well as assume responsibility for much of the administrative duties.

Phyllis is active in the recovery world, loves to spend time at the drop-zone, is an avid reader of good mystery novels, and is passionate about spending time with her daughter and son on the West Coast at any possible opportunity.  Her core values are honesty, and her personal experience in recovery allows her great depth of empathy and understanding.

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around."
